Best Zonning practise
Hello
I have a storage system 3par that contain two controllers each controller have two fc ports
I have two hp servers each server conatin one FC HBA card , each card contain two ports.
Suppose that I used the following Alieces on the Brocade SAN Sw:
3par storage : Controller1 port1 : c1p1 controller1port2 : c1p2 controller2port1: c2p1 controller2p2: c2p2
HP server1 : HBA Port1: S1P1 HBA Port2: S1P2
HP Server2: HBA Port1: S2P1 HBA Port2: S2P2
My question what is the best zonning to do from the following:
One initiator , all targets
One initiator , one target
or what??!!
First zonning will be:
Zone1
S1P1 C1P1 C2P1
S1P2 C2P1 C2P2
Zone2:
S1P1 C2P1 C2P2
S1P2 C1P1 C2P1
What about if I but all wwpns of storage and servers under one alies and put this alies into one zone would it be correct or it have impact on performance

Hi,
it's not clear, do you have two SAN Switches?
This Guide will help you: Document - HPE SAN Design Reference Guide | HPE Support
Page 200/331: Zoning by HBA is required when used in a heterogeneous SAN, including other operating systems
and other storage system families or types.
And HPE 3PAR Storage best practices guide

Re: Best Zonning practise
Hello @owahid,
Among Zone1 and Zone2 you specified, I recommend Zone1 for better redundancy.
I think the Zone1 you wrote is partially inaccurate. Please consider the below:
Zone1:
S1P1 C1P1 C2P1
S1P2 C1P2 C2P2
Let me know if you have more questions on this.
