Request for Guidance on SAN Switch Migration

Dear All,

I am planning the migration of a SAN switch to a new model in our environment, which includes a C7000 enclosure with blades and a 3PAR 8300. I would appreciate your suggestions on the pre-checks and validations that need to be performed before initiating the migration. Additionally, please advise on the potential risks associated with this process.

Details of the Migration:

  • Current SAN Switch Model: HPE 8/8 BASE (0) E-PORT ENABLED SAN SWITCH (AM866C)
  • New SAN Switch Model: HPE SN3600B 32GB 24/8 8-PORT 32GB SHORT WAVE SFP28 FIBRE CHANNEL SWITCH (R7R97A)
  • VMware ESXi Version: 8.0
  • Server Models: BL460 Gen 9 & Gen 10

Furthermore, I would appreciate any recommendations for the best action plan to ensure a smooth and successful migration.

Thank you for your support.

Re: Request for Guidance on SAN Switch Migration

Hi,

you can not Mix the 8GB and 32GB SAN Switch, they are inoperable.

So you have to remove the 8GB and replace it with 32GB.

This is the same as if the 8GB failed.

Check for redundant Path to the Hosts
Copy out your Switch configuration and Zoning and configure the new one as same.
Replace one with the new
Check for redundant Path to the Hosts
Proceed with the second

This is the Way, I do.
