-Assistance with Synergy Composer Imaging from USB--

Im unable to get my synergy composer to reimage after resetting it. I have tried following the instructions from the guide without success. I have a few questions hopefully someone who has successfully completed can assist in answering.

I will start by saying that I am not trying to restore any backups or save any configurations im just looking to factory reset with a clean image so I can regain control of hpe oneview for synergy environment.

1:) The guide says to decompress the zip folder I which I downloaded from HPE downloads page and place the contents onto my flash drive after formatting. The zip folder contains 3 files a .gz.sig file, a properties source file and then another compressed archive folder. Should I also be decompressing the archive folder. If so the file is contained is 20GB  in size? This is confusing then as to why then does the guide say I will only need a 4GB USB and will need to format the usb as fat32 (4GB Capacity)?

2:) Do I need any further files from the download page on the USB? The .sha256sum, ISO, or BIN (I do understand bin is not needed based on the text) just looking for thoughts?

I appreciate any guidance which can be provided.

Hi

Your procedure is correct - you don't need to unpack the files any further than the first zip file

Please provide more detail or screenshots on the actual issue you see. I have found most common issue being that the composer doesn't recognise the USB stick and so I typiucally take 3 or 4 prepared USB sticks and try each one.

Is this for composer1 or composer2 - you need to make sure you have the zip file for the correct composer version.

thanks

Re: -Assistance with Synergy Composer Imaging from USB--

Okay. Hopefully its just an issie with the usb then. My biggest struggle is that I really am not sure whats happeningas i can not get any response from the sysergy composer appliance console. When i try to connect to it I can not get a response other than when the composer initially does the factory reset and my console windows shows the message informing me that there is no device connected.

All I have to go on is the status lights on the composer. which are amber and from the looks of it the device is stuck in a boot loop. it goes  diagnostic "green" power "green" solid. It stays this may for a minute or two then both diag and power blink once together "green" diag goes back to "green" solid while power blinks a second time before resuming "green". for a bit then power goes amber all lights power off and it comes back up to the same two solid greens.  Next both diag and power blink "amber and resume green" Finally both lights power off for a few seconds when returning diag and power both blink simultaniously amber power blinks a second time amber then they both resume "green" and the loop continues.

To answer your question im trying to reimage a composer 1 using the unzipped contents of the downloaded folder HPE_Synergy_Composer_6.60.07_INSTALL_Z7550-97757.zip

Here is a link to my blog where you can see a photo showing further details of the USB For use with HPE Community Forum

What about the hard drive. If i need to replace it what state should replacement be in. Initialized/Not, GPT/MBR, Partitioned? Just trying to further figure out where Im gettting bottlenecked.

I will try formatting the drive and testing a few additional times while I wait to hear back from you.

Thanks again!

I don't have a Composer (1st gen) available to show you, but this is what the USB should look like for a Composer2.  Yes, some USB flash drives are a problem, 4GB, 8GB, maybe even 16GB seem to work fine.

Re: -Assistance with Synergy Composer Imaging from USB--

If you cannot get the USB reimage process to start-- replacing the hard drive will do absolutely nothing for you.  The reimage process runs and tries to read the USB before the disk is accessed or booted.  If you are locally connected to the front panel and go to the Composer serial port.. ..you must see output of some sort while attempting the reimage process.  If not-- you have a system board problem.  If you have already wiped the disk, you're in trouble because you cannot replace both the system board & disk, either one or the other has to have been in working condition.  That will require HPE support to repair.
