I'm dealing with an HPE Synergy 1200 that we acquired from a leasing arrangement. Unfortunately, the Synergy Composers are password-protected, and we can't access or configure the equipment. Is there a way to reset the Synergy Composers? We tried following the HP process, but it didn't work because all options are blocked, including the password reset option. We attempted to obtain the authorization code to reset the password from HP, but they requested that we renew the contract. Has anyone encountered this problem before and can help, please?

Re: Resey Synergy composer HPE 12000
Clearly if you want support you should pay for an HPE Services contract. I can point you in the right direct though, find the documentation on how to "reimage" a Synergy Composer. However, if you can't login to HPE's support web pages to download the images you're at a total dead end.

SolutionReimaging a Synergy Composer wipes out everything on them and comes with a default set of credentials you are required to change on initial login and first time setup. The defaults are contained here (towards the end): https://support.hpe.com/techlib/docs/synergy/shared/setup_overview/index.html

Re: Query: Resey Synergy composer HPE 12000
Hello everyone,
Apologies for not responding sooner; I was out of the office for the past few days. I was able to reset the Synergy Composer. First, I attempted to update to version HPE_Composer_3.10.07, but encountered the error: "The appliance signature is not valid. Retry the reimage process with a USB that contains a properly signed appliance image. The reimage of the appliance encountered errors and could not complete." I then tried with version HPE_Composer_4.00.10, which worked perfectly.
Thank you all for your support.

"I then tried with version HPE_Composer_4.00.10, which worked perfectly."
That's great news. However, I am extremely curious why you would use a version that has been out of support since June 2019 ? Seriously, even if it was a Composer (1st gen) you could at least start with 6.6

Re: Query: Resey Synergy composer HPE 12000
Just as a point of clarification: you can reimage to the latest version, there is no need to upgrade a newly imaged composer since there is no data or configuration to preserve. Unless your purpose is to learn and experience the many days (yes, full days) of non-stop upgrades.

Re: Query: Resey Synergy composer HPE 12000
Hello everyone,
I am reaching out regarding an issue with an HPE Synergy 12000 Frame. I recently acquired a rack with two Synergy 12000 frames from an auction and I am trying to perform a factory reset to use them in our lab.
However, I am unable to reset or reimage the Composers. I have already downloaded the recovery firmware version 6.60.02 (HPE_Synergy_Composer_6.60.02_INSTALL_Z7550-97463). I followed the standard procedures, such as copying the recovery files to a USB drive and rebooting the Composer, but without success. It fails to trigger the reimage process or validate the files.
Could you please provide the correct step-by-step procedure to successfully reimage or factory reset these modules from scratch?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Query: Resey Synergy composer HPE 12000
Please read the manual on how to reimage. Rebooting does nothing, the USB files are not bootable. You use the pinhole hold until the lights change as explained in the maintenance or setup manuals.

Re: Query: Resey Synergy composer HPE 12000
Hello DanCernese,
I followed the procedure described in the manual. However, when reaching the GRUB loading screen, I encounter the following error:
"could not validate the HP signature because the HP public Key could not be imported."
My Composer is currently on version 4.20. I have already tried the following without success:
Tested recovery with both version 4.20 and 6.60 images .
Updated the date and time settings, as I saw this can cause signature issues .
Swapped USB drives (tested with both 8GB and 16GB units).
Ensured the USB drive is formatted in FAT32 and contains the 3 specific files extracted from the HPE zip recovery package .
Despite these steps, the signature validation fails. Do you know of any other methods to resolve this public key import error?

If that doesn't work-- you'll have to engage support for recovery. You will never be able to reimage on your own. I can go into great detail on why, but it won't change anything that you have access to. There's apparantly a very old "reimage" script on the system board of the Composers. That needs updating which can't be done unless you are either "inside" (i.e. support access) or you can following the linked advisory. Those are the only two paths forward.
