Alert Storms

Hello, I was wondering if someone could explain the process to stopping event/alert storms. 

For example, a router fails so I currently get an alert from all devices on that site rather than just the router/core switch.

I have added the core switches to the 'Core Devices' in Alarm settings, however I still get an alarm for every device.
