Internet Service Monitor reports unexplained high response time
Hello,
For about a month now, our HP IMC is triggering a critical alarm when a Service Monitor that we have added exceeds its threshold. The Service Monitor is an Internet Service Type and it is checking the respone time of google.com in milliseconds. HP IMC insists that the service monitor is exceeding the 40ms threshold for google.com but performing a ping to google.com from the server the HP IMC is hosted on shows that each response time to the website is 5ms or below. What troubleshooting steps should I take to determine why HP IMC is insisting that google.com has such a high response time?
We use this service monitor check the health of our Internet.
Our IMC version is PLAT 7.3 (E0605P06).

Re: Internet Service Monitor reports unexplained high response time
The inconsistency is likely because "Service Monitoring" is not using ICMP, but rather measures the time it takes to establish an HTTP/S connection to the target address. The "ms" you see is measured based on how long it takes from the initial HTTP/S request until the connection is established and application data can be sent.
To verify this you could capture the HTTP/S packets on your IMC server and check how long that exchange actually takes, versus what is shown in the graphs.
Hope that helps...
