Best paltform for ERP system
Can some one advice me :
My company is going to implement new ERP system, I have asked to suggest the best platform, and hardware for them:
I have now two option:
1- HP 9000 PA-RISC 8800 rp3440 with HP-UX 11i
2- Itanium2 with linux enterprise.
My new system should be HA, with fail-over (Clustering) and replication to DR site.
I wish that some have passed the experince or already have same enviroment and can advise.
I will be gracefull if I got any info.
TQ

Re: Best paltform for ERP system
Further, this is not a technical question, not a financial question, but a support question :
- How much expirience do you have with HP-UX, ans MC/SG (since it has to be HA)
- How much expirience do you have with Linux in clustering.
- What support can you get from the people who could set up the server environment ? Or would assist you in the setup.
Both Linux and HP-UX are well capable for the job, but to my opinion there is a difference in "world" between them :
Linux is open source, supported and made by many. A good support of the software vendor for Linux is very important since there is no real single point of contact in case you have problems with your Linux setup.
HP-UX is made by HP and you can allways turn to HP if you run into a problem. (But if you are not happy with HP support, there is nowhere else you can go).
The above is not to be taken litteraly, of course there are dealers giving good HP-UX support. I juste wanted to state the difference in approach.

Re: Best paltform for ERP system
1)HP Integrity with HP-UX (Itanium2)
2)HP MC/ServiceGuard (for clustering)
3)HP StorageWorks XP Disk Array (or EVA)
4)HP Continuous Access XP (or EVA) for data replication

Zygmunt

Re: Best paltform for ERP system
Plans are to support Oracle EBS on Itanium2/HP-UX next year.
Currently you can use HP 9000 servers with PA8800 processors. They are easily
upgradeable to Itanium2, if you will need.

Zygmunt

Re: Best paltform for ERP system
One More thing is it beter to use Veritas Clustering for oracle application and database or to use MC/service guard, and oracle RAC. Future wise I will replicate my production system to remote DR site, so I want to plan well for my file system and implementation the correct senario.
I have good budget to finance this system.
Thanks very much

Re: Best paltform for ERP system
As far as I know, an Oracle 11i datbase does not yet exist.
If you think about running Oracle RAC on Itanium, Veritas is not supported by Oracle for Oracle RAC. You can find this on Oracle Metalink - Certify & Availability.
If yout think about running Oracle-RAC on PA-RISC, Veritas is only supported for Oracle 9i.
If this is a new installation, I would choose for Oracle 10g RAC.
ServiceGuard has a wider support on HP-UX (more applications support SG), but I heard (from others) that Veritas has more functionality.
Have you considered Oracle OSD Clusterware if this cluster will only be for RAC and if you are imlpementing Oracle 10g ?
