Rx2600 processors and mainboard differences

Hello,

We have an rx2600 Itanium-2 server having dual 900MHz CPUs. We would like to upgrade these CPUs into 1.3GHz ones. Do we need a mainboard replacement, or are these new CPUs compatible with the same mainboard? What else do we need to change if any?

Thanks in advance,
Vince

Re: Rx2600 processors and mainboard differences

Hello,
As far as I understand, there is no motherboard upgrade.
1. Order new processors.
2. Trade-in old CPU's.
3. Upgrade Firmware.
4. Upgrade OS to HP-UX 11i v2
Hope this helps,
Nico

Re: Rx2600 processors and mainboard differences

Hi Vince,

The mainboard does remain the same. You will need to upgrade your system firmware to the latest (02.21) using patch PF_CPEAKSYS0221.zip found at the following URL http://h20004.www2.hp.com/soar_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix88837en_US.html

You should also probable upgrade your Management Processor if firmware on it is less than E.02.23.

You will also need to upgrade your O/S to 11i V2 (11.23).

Hope that helps,

Eric
