BHOs from Spybot and Google have attached malware
Just a warning to those of you who are fighting the Spyware epidemic. We are seeing a new bug that attaches itself to BHOs from Spybot or Google. If a bug keeps popping up after you have cleaned the system try stopping all BHOs from loading - even ones you "know" are safe.

Re: BHOs from Spybot and Google have attached malware
Hi Ron,
Tnx for the warning, spyware keeps bugging a lot of people,
You got a lot of experience with spyware etc, what do you think about MS new spywaretool? (installs with windows update) I do not hear much about it, positive or negative.
I run the program Spywareblaster, stops a lot of spyware on the machines I installed it on, that program works great to my opinion. (got it from a thread here, but do not know who posted the link to the program)
Regards,
Ronald

Re: BHOs from Spybot and Google have attached malware
I've been running MS AntiSpy since it came out and monitoring the MS Forum at:
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?ICP=spyware&sLCID=us
It is still pretty weak - can't touch VX2 or Coolwebsearch or About:Blank unless you maybe boot into Safe Mode and run it then reboot back into Safe mode and rescan. (Can't swear to it but that's what rumor says.)
Misses a lot of spyware altogether and removes some incorrectly. Lots of people complaining about being knocked off the internet after using it.
Lots of false positive.
Certainly not ready for prime time but it is still a Beta. Unfortunately the press took notice and talked it up so that a lot of people who have no clue what Beta means are trying it. Lot's of unhappy campers.
On the plus side it has some nice tools but you have to know what you are doing.

Re: BHOs from Spybot and Google have attached malware
Hi ron
Tnx for the reply and your insight, there are indeed a lot of people that just install it beecause they think it is from MS and so is Windows, so it should work and sertenly do not know what beta means.
I will keep following the things about this MS program and will install it when it seems to work.
Personaly I find it a good thing that MS is trying to make a good a tool to battle against spyware, it is comming more annoying with the week, spyware tools are now as inportant as virussoftware and thats not a good thing and it is a shame people making this spyware to benifit themselfs and do not care what kind of troubel some people get into.
Regards,
Ronald
