How to kill the Macromedia Security Warning in IE

Recently my ISP (AT&T Worldnet) started redirecting my webmail access to a new site. The new site told me everytime I checked my email that I needed to have Macromedia' Flash player in order to to view the site. This was an obvious lie since I could cancel the install and still get my email. I suspected that the requirement was for the sake of the ads that they like to hit you with and Macromedia tech support pretty much confirmed this to be the case though they could offer no solution to avoid the warning other than the obvious "download the software."

I didn't want to do that - the ads are obnoxious enough without making them more powerful plus this is a company computer and IT policy is not to download software off the net so I searched for and FOUND! a way to get rid of the warning. There doesn't appear to be any info on the web about this workaround so I'm posting it here:

First note the URL of the site. Just the first part that ends in .com or .net is all you really need.

From IE select Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Site/Sites and type in the URL of the site where it says "Add this Site to the Zone:" then hit OK. (If you are using Trusted already you can use one of the other Local Intranet or Restricted Sites if you want tho for Restricted you may need to get change a lot of the options to make you site work.)

Now hit Custom Level and under ActiveX / Download Signed ActiveX Controls click on Disabled. This will stop the Security Warning but if you stopped now you will probably get a prompt saying the site may not load correctly because of your security settings. Go to Scripting and where it says Active Scripting set that to Disable and then hit OK. You will get a warning asking if you really want to change this. Say Yes then OK. You should now be able to go to the site without getting the warning and as long as nothing else is in Trusted it won't have any effect on other sites. Of course, you can add other sites with the same problem to Trusted and it should stop them from annoying you too.

Re: How to kill the Macromedia Security Warning in IE

I found a better way! Just download the free popup killer called Free Surfer Mk II from
http://www.webattack.com/download/dlfreesurfer.shtml

in the configuration screen there is an option to Enable Flash Animations which you can uncheck and another which says Don't show Flash screen which you want to check.

Now I can go to www.cnn.com and www.yahoo.com and not see that stupid Macromedia popup.

As a bonus it blocks popups without having to be told which sites are which.

Re: How to kill the Macromedia Security Warning in IE

Hi Ron,
I think u have to see the other features that Macromedia' Flash player has other than advertisements.
There are so many E-Greeting cards that come in Flash, then there are even some good animations of the site and some of the games and even some books..

So if u install it u will be able to view them and enjoy them..

Even sometimes the advertisements are really good (in a creative way) to see and enjoy..

Just give it for a consideration..
