I recently aquired an older hp computer. The explorer is not operating. I can connect to the internet but I cannot bring up my internet explorer to download a new version. Can anyone help?? Whoever had the computer previously must have uninstalled the internet explorer. I tried to use my files from my xp but they wont work either. This is a ME computer.

Re: internet explorer error HELP
Penny:
Run the attachment (after you've connected to the internet). Keep in mind if you're connected via dialup, the rest of the download will take a long time.

Re: internet explorer error HELP
Penny,
You could go to your local News agent and see if they have a computer mag with a free CD that has IE or Netscape or some other browser on it. For about $10.00 you would also get the latest demo software as well.

Re: internet explorer error HELP
This issue occurs if the system files of Windows ME got corrupted. If the system is preinstalled with Windows ME, then reinstall the operating system.
To reinstall the Windows ME Operating System, perform the following steps:
1. Boot the system with Windows startup disk.
Follow the below suggested steps to create a start-up diskette. As your Presario is not booting to Windows, I suggest you create the startup disk from any system with Windows 98 Operating System.
1.Double click on My Computer icon
2.Double click on Control Panel
3.Double click on Add/Remove Programs
4.Click on Start-up Disk button
5.Click on Create Disk button
6.Put disk in A drive
7.Click OK button
This will load all system files and some useful utilities to allow you access to your computer by taking you to the A drive. From there you will be able to access files and begin troubleshooting the problem that prompted you to use the disk. Use this disk when Windows will not completely come up or there's other problems that indicate an Operating System problem.
NOTE: If you are unable to do it from your system, I suggest you create the startup disk from any other system available with Windows 98 Operating System
2. At the A:\> prompt, type the following command and press enter after the command:
C:\windows\options\cabs\setup.exe
or
C:\windows\options\Install\setup.exe
This is will guide you through the process of reinstall the Operating System.

Vidya
