Solution
Always make sure you have a copy of winsockXpfix.exe in case you can't get back on the internet afterwards:
http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm
Go back into Safe Mode without networking and check the following:

These next two are peer to peer networking which while not exactly malware is not really safe to have on your PC.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

Hit Fix Checked then right click on Internet Explorer and select Properties then Delete Files then check the box where it says Delete All Off Line Content and wait 5 minutes and then rescan without rebooting and see if any of the things that you just killed come back. If they do you may need to use the pocket killbox to kill them off:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php
Reboot and rescan and post the log here so I can see if we got it all.
You also need to get uptodate on your XP patches. At least everything security related except perhaps SP2 which seems to still cause too much trouble to recommend.
