spyware

I tried to download this spynuker:http://www.moneypops.com/spynuke.htm
,but all I get is the gif image to download.
I tried also an other site with the same result.
It says Scan my computer now absolutely free on this site. On the other one it says download.
Any suggestions as to what I might do wrong? thanks

Re: spyware

A quick search with google shows that spynuke is advertised on a spammer association website. That's like asking a wolf to watch your sheep. I'd stay away from it.

Instead go to:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22262,00.asp

and get Spybot Search and Destroy and/or Ad Aware. Both are very good and are not associated with any spammers. Zone Alarm (also on the same page is another good program to have.)

You might also want to get EMS FreeSurfer which is a really nice PopUp Window Killer.

It can also lock your home page so it can't be hijacked.

Re: spyware

Hi Ron, thanks for the quick reply, but I went to that site also and got also a gif image when I clicked on the download line : "Your file is currently downloading. If the download does not begin automatically, please click here " this is the line on the web site you did mention. Is there another place to click to download that program?

Re: spyware

I think your Internet Explorer is messed up. I just checked the site and it worked fine for me. It does take a few seconds to bring up the download screen but it works OK.

Go to Internet Explorer and select Tools/Internet Options/Advanced then click on Restore Defaults. Then OK.

If that doesn't work try Tools/Internet Options/Privacy and push the slider down to Accept All Cookies. Then OK.

Finally, Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted/Sites and put pcworld.com in as a trusted site. Then OK.

Re: spyware

Hi Ron, I do use Netscape 7 and have moved the slider to accept all cookies, but the program did not download. This time it showed a window "spybotsd 12.exe is not a valid win32 application.
I do have the Zonealarm pro, and the setting for internet zone security and trusted zone security are set to high. Due to an head injury, I have a difficult time following the instructions in the helpfiles. ps. I did manage to download the Ad-aware 6 do I actually need more than that? thanks again

Re: spyware

Sorry, can't help with Netscape. Haven't used it since version 3. something. Didn't like 4.0 so went back to IE. You might try opening the link in a new window. And try to save the file rather than open it.

Go ahead and run ad aware. It's pretty good and should find most of the spystuff. Just make sure you get the latest data files for it.

See if you can get EMS FreeSurfer. I think you will like. If you want to test it go to mlb.com. Without freesurfer you get 4 popups!
