Windows Update doesn't allow for updates

Hello.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition on my HP Pavilion zt1130 laptop and about several weeks ago, I went to the MS site to attempt to see if any new updates were available.

However, every time it tries to search the system to compile a list of updates, it either doesn't start searching at all (0%) or it stops at 25%.

I heard this has to do with the current version of the Windows Update that MS is using but ... is there any way around it if you DON'T know what updates to look for?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Windows Update doesn't allow for updates

Go back to the updatewindows site and turn on the Catalog. Then have it show you all of the downloads it has for XP home. It looks like this one may be what you need:

Critical Update, February 9, 2002 - (Posted Date: July 29, 2002)
Download size: 278 KB

IF that doesn't work then just start at the oldest one and download them one at a time (skipping the foreign language ones of course).

Re: Windows Update doesn't allow for updates

!?

The pull-down bar only gives me Unassigned and then 0 - 10. I gave you 10. I dunno how to present the rabbit in the hat.

I'd love to though since I've searched all over for a solution to the infernal problem.
