Old School 3com vcx server boots to grub. How do I start the Vcx os?
Hello All,,
While working at one of my sites, I found a block of 4 servers for their VCX phone system. The users were complaining about faxes not going through to their emails but they are able to send out.
Upon further investigation, I found that the Primary Messaging Server is booted to the Grub cursor screen. All other servers are up and working.
I'm using Knoppix just to look for the boot files, however I can only find older VMlinuz-2.6.9-67.0.20...etc files. The working servers show a different version of the OS.
Where would I look for the right file to point Grub to or if that's not right, how do I boot up the VCX OS?
I'm a relative rookie at linux but I have a few guru's to help me out.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Jason

Re: Old School 3com vcx server boots to grub. How do I start the Vcx os?
I have a rebuild document, hopefully it will help.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/83980864/VCX-7-1-DiskBuild-HOWTO-Redone
Perhaps another VCX guru above my level can chime in with the real fix for this issue before having to do a complete rebuild.
Unfortunately, the older oracle builds mentioned in that document aren't available on the HPRC VCX FTP Site.
In all seriousness, you've got about 3000 pages of documents to peruse before attempting a rebuild.

Thanks!
I'll look through it to see what I can find.
Would you know how to look up, on a good server, what file is being used to run the OS....IE ---> vmlinuz, .img or other?
Since all the servers auto start the VCX OS, I have no way of knowing what runs the OS.

Sure, I've got a vcx connect lab machine in the office I can play with. I might not have the time today, but I'll boot it up.

Re: Old School 3com vcx server boots to grub. How do I start the Vcx os?
Cool. Appreciate the help.
I figured out that the only difference between the backup and primary server is the /boot directory. See below:
BACKUP SERVER (Working)
-bash-3.00# find /boot
/boot
/boot/System.map-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxLM
/boot/System.map-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcx
/boot/config-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcx
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcx
/boot/System.map-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxOAPS
/boot/config-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxLM
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxLM
/boot/grub
/boot/vmlinuz
/boot/initrd.img
/boot/config-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxOAPS
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxOAPS
/boot/initrd-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxOAPS.img
/boot/description-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxOAPS
/boot/initrd-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxLM.img
/boot/description-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcxLM
/boot/initrd-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcx.img
/boot/description-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcx
/boot/initrd-2.6.9-89.0.23.ELvcx.img.old
Primary (Down Server)
root@Microknoppix:~# find /boot
/boot
However, the same files at the Backup Server do exist on the Primary but they are under /media/sda3/boot.
Now I just have to figure out which file and how to boot it.

The output of dmesg from a vcx connect machine is attached.
