Is static route priority over a directly connected route?

Hi all,

I have HP A5500 EI switch SW1, and using it for inter-Vlan (Vlan1 and Vlan2) routing.

Vlan interfaces are configured for each Vlan (192.168..1.1/24 for Vlan1 and 192.168.2.1/24 for Vlan2).

I have two workstations WS1 (IP address 192.168.1.5, Default GW: 192.168.1.1) and WS2 (IP address 192.168.2.5, Default GW: 192.168.2.1). WS1 connected to Vlan1 and another one -to Vlan2.

I try pinging WS2 from WS1 and vice versa. All working fine.

In SW1 routing table have  two records for direct connected networks 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24.

So,  Now I try to add to SW1 routing table static route : 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 NULL. 255 . Route added, no error.

But now My workstations  can't ping each other. ((((

What is wrong??? Is the static route most preffer than direct connected?

Hi there,

Normally it static route should not effect the current network. Please check whether the directly connected route is still there when you add the static route by checking the routing table.
