OfficeConnect 3CR858-91 requiring frequent reboots
Hello,
I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this issue. I use this router for my small business and about 6 months ago I realized many of my machines would randomly lose internet connectivity for 20-30 minutes at a time. At first I thought it was my ISP, but after multiple calls to Comcast they suggested I bypass the router as a test. The issue was immediately resolved. After that I noticed that if I log into the router and "restart router" under system tools the issue is immediately resolved.
I updated the firmware to: V1.15-168 (Aug 27 2009). This did not help at all.
When the issue occurs, my PCs can ping all addresses just fine. But any website I try to visit will timeout, even if I try to refresh a page that's already open. Doesn't matter which browser I use, doesn't matter if I change DNS servers, doesn't matter if I restart my computer, doesn't matter if I restart my modem.
I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this issue. If this can't be fixed I'm going to have to toss this thing in the trash.
Thanks in advance,
Kelly

Re: OfficeConnect 3CR858-91 requiring frequent reboots
I forgot to mention, I need to restart this thing 4-5 times daily and it seems the problem is slowly getting worse.
I never see the alert light flashing except when the router is restarting and the cable/dsl light continues to flash when the net goes down.

Re: OfficeConnect 3CR858-91 requiring frequent reboots
I have the exact same router and the exact same problem.
One diff - Unlike AlkiRockStar mine doesn't come a live after 30 minutes. I get disconnected and the connection doesn't come alive unless I restart the router. BTW I have noticed that it happends with big downloads, it's like it has a limit on the amount of data I can transfer in a row.

SOLVED - for me at least:
Mine was overheating.

Re: OfficeConnect 3CR858-91 requiring frequent reboots
My router is not overheating, I measured the temperature at the hottest spot (the middle of the bottom) and it's only at 75 degrees. There is nothing surrounding the device so it has plenty of air for cooling.
Additionally, I requested an RMA from 3COM and they sent what appeared to be a new device. After configuring the new device to my network, the problem persists with the new one.
To verify, again, that the router is to blame... I connected a netgear wireless router in place of the 3COM, no problems for 24 hours. If I didn't need to use the virtual server functionality of the 3COM, I would probably just stick with the Netgear.
I replied to the 3COM RMA department and told them their replacement router has the same exact issue, but have not yet received a response.

Re: OfficeConnect 3CR858-91 requiring frequent reboots
And, yes, I updated both my router and the RMA replacement from V1.08 to v1.15 and it did not make any difference with regards to this issue. I will say the device seems a bit snappier with V1.15, however.
