Query regarding HP 1950 Series Switch
Hi All,
I'm having few query regarding HP 1950 Series Switch, it would be great help if anyone would address it.
1) Can i do Stacking (IRF) using 2 HP 1950-24G-2SFP+-2XGT-PoE+ (JG962A) and 1 HP 1950-24G-2SFP+-2XGT (JG960A) Switch using any normal 1G Port RJ45 port or need to use 2XGT port only to do stacking.
2) Can we configure more than 1 DHCP Server on 1950 Switch.
Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Query regarding HP 1950 Series Switch
Hi!
- Yes, you can deploy an IRF between a JG962A and a JG960A BUT, if I recall correctly, you are forced to use - in any case - SFP+ Transceivers (so working at 10 Gbps) / DAC Cables (so working at 10 Gbps) or 1/10 GE (Copper) physical interfaces (eventually binding them - of the same type - together to enhance bandwidth and resiliency) as IRF Ports members.
- No, you can probably configure more DHCP Pools but the DHCP Server which is serving those address pools is just one (one service).

Re: Query regarding HP 1950 Series Switch
Thanks for your reply. Continue with your solution which is very helpful. Need to clear some more points according to it.
1) As 1950 having default IP (169.254.x.x) so configuring stack (IRF) for Master switch and follow the same procedure for member switches and reboot it one by one. So will be the member Switches Releases their default IP or IP received from DHCP server to make a single management plane with IP address of Master Switch IP.
2) Only one DHCP Server and multiple DHCP pool means to say I can create multiple pool with different subnet.
Example : 10.1.1.0/24 for Device Management
20.1.1.0/24 for User device and so on.
Correct me if I'm wrong for Point 2.
Please guide.
Regards,
Vishal

Re: Query regarding HP 1950 Series Switch
Hi Vishal,
- I strongly suggest you to follow the IRF configuration ("Stack configuration example) at page 94 of the HPE OfficeConnect 1950 Switch Series User Guide (May 2019) and, as a preliminary step, perform for both basic usual switch onfigurations BEFORE starting with IRF deployment (eventually - if you don't set IP on both - you can work connected to serial console of both 1950 switches but you need two laptops to work on them concurrently and easily).
- I think so (pay attention to this).
