Detecting rogue Access Points

We have a MSM760 Controller with a few Access Points. I have configured some of the Access Point radios to be in monitor mode.

I have setup a spare AP to act as a rogue device with a hidden SSID but have been unable to see the rogue device under Network Neigbourhood on the controller.

Is this the correct way to identify rogue devices or have I setup the AP incorrectly P.S. This thread has been moved from Communications, Wireless (Legacy ITRC forum) to MSM Series. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: Detecting rogue Access Points

I find that using Netstumbler and a decent antenna on a mobile device is a simpler way of locating rogue APs.

Or, are you looking for rogue clients?

Re: Detecting rogue Access Points

I assume that when you put one of the radio's of the AP into monitor mode, I should be able to see hidden SSID's

Is the right????

Thanks

Re: Detecting rogue Access Points

Yes, it should appear. You would see an entry with the MAC/BSSID of that AP but the SSID will not be broadcasted, therefore the SSID string will be empty for that particular AP.
