Mobile Trafic Management use for L2 Client Connections over L3 Network

Hello,

is the MTM Feature ok for using it to connect the WLAN Clients trought the AP over the MSM760 to an other VLAN (Subnet) with pure L2 without Bridging over a L3 Infrastructure?

This ist the path:

WLAN-Client -- AP -- L3 Switches -- Internet or LAN port - MSN760 - Internet or LAN port -- L2 - (MAC Address from the WLAN-Client and not from the Controller)

I have a Internet Access Server that must see the MAC Address direct from the WLAN-Client.

Hi,

yes, the MTM feature allows you to simply "bridge" a wlan to a tagged vlan on the internet/lan port of the controller. This is achieved through a tunnel between the AP and Controller.

This would be a sample configuration, with sample vlan 199 for the IAS vlan:

# Controller - Network

1/ Define network profile (IAS-V199)

2/ VLANs : link the network profile IAS-V199 as tagged on the controller internet port (this basically controls the outgoing L2 bridge interface).

# Controller - VSCs - Open the IAS VSC

Enable the MTM feature : This tels the AP the bring the traffic in the first place to the controller (exceptions can be made for local breakout for some APs, but initial setting is to bring traffic to controller).

# Controller - Controlled APs - AP Group x (repeat for all your AP groups which have the IAS VSC binding) - VSC Bindings

Open the VSC Binding for the IAS VSC, select egress network : IAS-V199.

For a non-MTM VSC, this would tell the AP to use the loca breakout and tag this WLAN on the AP ethernet port with Vlan 199.

Since you have a MTM VSC now, the AP will tunnel the traffic to the controller, with this VLAN identifier inside the tunnel traffic.

When the controller receives the traffic with the vlan ID on the tunnel from the AP, it will lookup in the VLAN mapping configuration which physical port is tagged (step 2/ from first section) and bridge the traffic to that interface.
