v-m200 roaming without wds

still sort of pertaining to prevous question on the board

is it possible to setup these units using wireless 802.11 b/g/n to allow roaming from one v-m200 unit to the other? the example being roaming from one side of the bulding to the other one using one ssid. so basicly users see the wireless network as one entire wireless network.

Put them both up with the same SSID and some overlap and the clients wil roam between them somewhat good. Maybe not completely seamless, but depending on your needs that might not be necessary.

I have 10 V-M200's in a school using the same SSIDs (school admin, faculty/student, guest) on channels 1, 6, 11, as well as about 20 Apple Airport Extreme base stations using the faculty/student SSID on channels 1, 6, 11 plus some dual-band on 5 Ghz. My users only see those three SSIDs, and it works quite well, but how well they roam  depends more on the equipment and OS. All laptops work fine if they are put in sleep/standby mode and awakened in a different area, and we discourage everyone from walking with laptops open and on (as should you), so that isn't a problem. Handheld and portable devices usually catch up within a minute if they lose a signal. Some devices try to maintain association with a certain access point no matter how weak the signal becomes and no matter how many stronger signals they can see all around them, but I think such devices are fading away. Newer stuff seems to be more intelligent.

As srg said, configure your AP using the same SSID with the same security settings. Please try to avoid using interfering channels: you probably need to have a map with location of you access points, check the coverage and decide what frequency you are going to use. Never use authomatic channel configuration - it does not work properly.

However, if you want to get proper wireless roaming, you need to use a wireless controller. I know it is too expensive.:smileymad:
