4/64B serial connection problem
Hi,
I am having a problem with serial connection to some SAN switches.
The Fabric has 4/64 and 4/8 B series switches. I can connect fine to the 4/8 switches RS232 serial port with the serial cable (RJ45 connector plugged into the RS232 9 PIN adapter). If I take the adapter off and try to connect to the 4/64 switches using the RJ45 serial port I don't get the login prompt.
It is the same cable, laptop, HyperTerminal and COM port settings (9800 8 N 1 N) used in both circumstances.
All switches are running the following:
Kernel: 2.4.19
Fabric OS: v5.1.1a
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Vaughan

Re: 4/64B serial connection problem
I think you need a different cable for the 4/64B (It should have come with one) - you cannot use the old-style cable with just leaving off the RJ45/DB9 adapter.

Re: 4/64B serial connection problem
Thanks Uwe, I suspected as much.
Our switches were provided direct by HP as part of some remedial support work they were doing, so we didn't get a box with cables etc.
I would like to order a cable but I can't find the part number anywhere. Can anyone tell me what it is or even if it can be ordered separately?
