Adding new Disks into MSA1040 and create new Vdisk

Hi all,

Currently I have 2 logical Vdisks (Raid5) runing in Linear. Vd1 - 7 disk (1 spare), and vd2 - 3 disks (no spare). System is runing for 8 years now.

I want to add new disks with faster RPM and migrate my environment to new disks, without any expansion etc.

Questions here:
1. Can I just plug-in the disks on runing environment without interupting my production?

2. Will I be able to create new vdisk, volumes and map them into my environment?

3. Will there be any issues if newly installed disks' firmware older than storage firmware? and how to upgrade the disks firmware, just run the firmware upgrade?

Regards

Yes

Yes

I do a lot and never run into a problem with different Disk Drive Firmware Versions.
Disk Drive Firmware Update is a bit complex.
It is only allowed Offline and you have to search for your Drive Modell.
For MSA Firmware Update you can read my Blog here: HPE MSA Upgrade – d8taDude
For Firmware Download use this Site: HPE MSA Storage Firmware & Release Notes
