Hi. We have several HP SAN systems in our small business network.
the storage array in question has 4 x 2tb disks running in RAID 5
as the screenshot shows it has 8TB capacity but only uses 6TB for the Vdisks with 2tb as reserved space.
i went through the SMU manual but couldn't find reverence to "reserved space"
can anyone explain what it is ?
many thanks
Gordon

Re: HP P2000 Storage G3 SAS SMU Reserved Space... What is it
Sure it is marked as reserved space? or is it just raw space in another group of physical disks? See the legend below.
But it could even be the sapce needed for redundancy depending on the type of the vdisk.
Select the row and you will see more details.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP P2000 Storage G3 SAS SMU Reserved Space... What is it
The array only has 4 disks so i dont think it can be raw space in another group.
when i expand disk it shows the space as "overhead" as shown in the screen shot
many thanks

SolutionYou have 8GB total raw space, the vdisk is configured as RAID5, so you got 6TB usable space and 2TB are used for RAID5 redundancy.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
