maximum disk partitions configurable under an MSA50/P800 controller
Good morning,
We're looking to migrate some Blade Legacy OpenVMS Systems onto some RX2800 i2 Servers. Each RX2800 will be hooked up to x2 MSA50 1U disk enclosures and x2 HP PCIe P800 SAS RAID Controllers. The x2 MSA50's attached to each Server will house x20 SAS 15k HDD (which, predominantly, will consist of 600GB 12G SAS 15K SFF drives). In order to accomodate all of the data being migrated I will looking to create several Raid 10 (1+0) mirror + stripesets (with partitions) on each box, with remaining drives configured as mirrorsets or sparesets.
In terms of the partitions I'm looking to create. Each of the main raidsets I'm looking to partition will consist of x6 600Gb physical drives, from which i will create x3 mirror-sets and then a stripe-set (under which I will create x8 partitions). It has been a while now (approx 20 years!) since i last configured storage partitions on an MSA/Pxx controller and so just looking for confirmation that it will be possible to configure x8 partitions under x6 HDD. (I have previous experience of configuring 6x partitions under a similar storageset on an msa but believe that it should be possible to configure a maximum of x8 partitions per storageset under a p800 controller) ?

Hi RamKS,
Yes I am happy to provide you with as much information as possible . Although I am responsible for provisioning storage on our side, I'm not a storage specialist (per se) so happy to engage with your consultation team to try and procure a definitive answer to the quesitons raised.
regards
Paul
