Hi all, I have to rebuild our hardware stack to an enclosure with two Proliant servers as nodes, Microsoft Hyper-V (Windows Server Datacenter Edition) as hypervisor and a MSA 2060 as the main storage system. Currently we're using the same schema but based on a MSA 2040 with Proliant Gen8 servers as nodes. My question is: how can I monitor the MSA' health? Currenly I'm using the SIM software but, as stated by HPE, is an EOL product. Please note that I prefer that the MSA should NOT have a public network connected but, as core servers, should be monitored by some other app (PRTG? HPE SIM? HPE Infosight?) via a firewall only on specified ports and protocols. The monitoring app/apps will have access to the public network to send alarms, emails and so on. Thanks Andrea.

Re: Monitoring health of a MSA2060.
@AndreaValori
The MSA supports Email, SNMP and SYSLOG as notification protocols. You will need to use an application supporting one or more of these protocols from your MSA management private network to get the notifications to the public network. SIM I believe is an SNMP receiver, there's not much new in SNMP (MSA MIBS are still from 2017) so SIM should continue to work but support will be non-existent. HPE has Arxscan listed in the MSA quickspecs. There are other options for SNMP receivers but maybe another forum would be a better place to find a good one.
An SMTP relay might be an option if you prefer the email capabilities of the MSA.

SolutionYou can use XorMon ( https://xormon.com/ ), opensource, it supports MSA for HW event and performance monitoring same as for many of other storage devices

Re: Monitoring health of a MSA2060.
@JonPaul Thanks for your reply. And what about monitoring iLOs? Again, currently I'm using SIM to receive errors like disk faults, unexpected reboot and so on. Do you think that HPE insight VM should be fine? Andrea.

Re: Monitoring health of a MSA2060.
@AndreaValori
I am not an expert on the iLO capabilities. That said, there are few changes in SNMP in general and likely the SIM you currently have will continue working. But you will have no support.

Re: Monitoring health of a MSA2060.
Hi, finally I'm still using the last public version on HP SIM that has a simple section where you can configure the SMTP server in your use. Currently I'm using our mail service provider (a local provider, not google or microsoft or any major global company) and it works without any issue. Hope it helps, Andrea.
