MSA 2012 & HP UPS R3000RX

Is it possible to configure a HP UPS R3000rx to gracefully shutdown a HP MSA 2012?

We have several Proliant servers (windows based) connected to a couple of HP UPS. In the event of power lose the UPS shutdown these server after a few minutes. It would be nice to be able to cleanly shutdown the MSA too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: MSA 2012 & HP UPS R3000RX

I've got similar requirements, however, we're using an APC UPS and ESX servers in conjunction with PowerChute Network Shutdown.

I don't know if there are any tools out-of-the box to cleanly shut down the MSA in case of a power failure, here's what I'm going to do:

I'm not sure wether it's possible in HP's tools, over here I've got the option to execute scripts in when shutting down everything.

With a script and the ssh tool of your choice, you're able to shut down the MSA's RAID controller(s) over the CLI (obviously, you'll need an independent machine to do that).

However, take great care when accessing the MSA this way. AFAIR some firmware versions need a delay between each ssh command, otherwise the controller crashes. Make sure to have the latest firmware and have read the release notes (which is a MUST with the MSA 2012, given its firmware history).

Also, make sure that the UPS' software won't shutdown the machine accessing the MSA before the attached servers are down - this may require you to shut down this machine by yourself and only letting the UPS SW execute your script.

Hope that helped you a bit.
