MSA 2040 sanitize disks

Hi everybody,

I have to dismantle a MSA 2040 and I need to wipe / sanitize / overwrite all the disks.

Is there a way to do this via Management-Page or CLI an how does it work ?

From SMU you can try option "Repurposing disks",

Repurposing a disk changes the encryption key on the disk and effectively deletes all data on the disk.
Repurpose a disk only if you no longer need the data on the disk.

To repurpose a disk
1. In the System topic, select Action > Full Disk Encryption.
The Full Disk Encryption panel opens with the FDE General Configuration tab selected.
2. Select Repurpose Disks tab.
3. Select the disk to repurpose.
4. Click Repurpose. A dialog box displays.
5. Perform one of the following:
 To repurpose the selected disk, click Yes.
 To cancel the request, click No.

Subhajit has outlined the steps to repurpose encrypted drives.

If you wish to wipe drives that belong to a vdisk you can delete the vdisk and recreate a new vdisk. This will effectively recreate the metadata of the vdisk. To further ensure all the data has been deleted, I would suggest you recreate the vdisk using the offline option. This recreates the metadata and lays down a blank data bit + parity bit on the vdisk. Using the offline method will effective overwrite all the data on the exisiting vdisk. I would then delete this vdisk as well so the drives would be left as empty.

Do be aware, once either method is used you will no longer have access to any data on the array. Be sure you have copied off all the data you need prior to following these methods.
