MSA SAN Switch 2/8 password reset to factory default - firmware available?
I know this ahve been bounced around but I have never seen a definitive answer.
I have recently purchased a used MSA SAN Switch 2/8 and of course the seller has not responded to my query as to the passwords. Probably because they did not know them either.
I have seen reference to a bootable firmware mechanism of reset the passwords to the defaults.
I am a self-maintenance type. No service contracts. Work on open source and also support clients with the systems.
How can I get this resolved. Sure, I could buy another MSA SAN Switch 2/8 and make sure to check ahead about the passwords, but that seems like a pain/waste.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Bill.

Unfortunately someone appears to have changed the root password because it did not like that one when trying to access via the serial port.

Yes, have access to the serial port.
Am going to attempt some things I found in the FOS Procedure manual...
But need to get be closer to the unit since those instructions talk about a FOUR SECOND window.
FYI FOS version is 3.2.0.

Re: MSA SAN Switch 2/8 password reset to factory default - firmware available?
Well, so far no luck. Someone else had directed me to the FOS Procedure Manual which discusses the interrupt of the boot by pressing escape after a prompt to so so... But when I do the boot I get this:
VxWorks System Boot
Copyright 1984-1994 Wind River Systems, Inc.
CPU: i960
Version: 5.3.1
BSP version: 1.0
Creation date: Mon Jul 8 18:35:34 PDT 2002
Press any key to stop auto-boot...
3
xWorks Boot]: help
? - print this list
@ - boot from net (load and go)
! - boot from flash (load and go)
p - print boot params
c - change boot params
l - load boot file
g adrs - go to adrs
d adrs[,n] - display memory
m adrs - modify memory
f adrs, nbytes, value - fill memory
t adrs, adrs, nbytes - copy memory
e - print fatal exception
n netif - print network interface device address

$dev(0,procnum)host:/file h=# e=# b=# g=# u=usr [pw=passwd] f=#
tn=targetname s=script o=other
Boot flags:
0x02 - load local system symbols
0x04 - don't autoboot
0x08 - quick autoboot (no countdown)
0x20 - disable login security
0x40 - use bootp to get boot parameters
0x80 - use tftp to get boot image
0x100 - use proxy arp
available boot devices: ei fei
And attempting to use 0x20 as a boot flag to "disable login security" does not appear to have any effect, still prompts with "login:" and when a user name is entered, either admin or user it still expects a password and fails.
Thoughts?

Not yet.
Case opened (5358633066) on 16 Sept...
Looking for the firmware...
As of Monday they had not yet found it...

Re: MSA SAN Switch 2/8 password reset to factory default - firmware available?
Well, so I opened a case with HPE...
That took a while...
Initially opened on 16 Sept... As of today I have been informed that HPE Engineering has no information or knowledge of how to reset the passwords on the MSA SAN SWITCH 2/8. And they have no knowledge of the "firmware".
So, either the firmware does not exist - strange, one would think that this is a common issue along the way. OR, they lost it and they do not want to go back to Brocade to get a replacement.
Very strange...
Very disappointing, too.
So, I have now found a reseller who has a switch with factory default settings for passwords...
