Redundancy SAN MSA 1050
Hello,
I am installing a MSA 1050 SAN 48TB in my datacenter 1.
I was wondering if I should put my second MSA 1050 SAN 48TB in my second data center and replicate data from the first to the second?
Or does an MSA 1050 SAN with dual power supply and controller offer sufficient redundancy?
If the SAN motherboard malfunctions, will the SAN continue to operate?
My question is the following :
Can a SAN with a power supply and a dual controller deal with any hardware problem that happens to it?
thank you !
PS : Sorry for my English

It all depends on your enterprise/architecture requirements.
Or does an MSA 1050 SAN with dual power supply and controller offer sufficient redundancy?
Dual PS and dual controller will offer local redudancy, but not Datacenter redudancy.
If the SAN motherboard malfunctions, will the SAN continue to operate?
No, if your backplane is gone, you will have troubles
My question is the following :
Can a SAN with a power supply and a dual controller deal with any hardware problem that happens to it?
A MSA with one powersupply will have the PS as single point of failure. Dual controller will be controller-failure resistant. A replicated storage array will cover all HW/DC failures.

Re: Redundancy SAN MSA 1050
SAN servers are used to store 50 VMs important for production.
You therefore confirmed to me that a SAN equipped with two power supplies and two controller which are connected on
two core networks do not offer redundancy if the SAN motherboard is HS?
In addition, is replication active / active or ative / passive? One SAN working and replicating on another SAN
or the two works together (load distribution)?

Re: Redundancy SAN MSA 1050
The MSA 1050 is the cheapest SAN Storage you can buy from HPE.
It has no single Mainboard, but a single passive backplane.
But you can have multiple Disk Failures for example that bring the System down.
If you buy a second, the Data can be replicated every xx Minutes there.
But no Realtime (Synchronous), load balancing, auto-failover, ....
If you need/want this, buy a Nimble, 3PAR or Primera.

Re: Redundancy SAN MSA 1050
Keep in mind, for real HA you install even 3PAR, Primera, XP ... in pairs with replication.
A single array is never real HA.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Redundancy SAN MSA 1050
Okay, I got it right.
Last question:
If I configure my two SANs so that the first replicates the second, during an incident, is the second SAN capable
automatically resume workload?
If yes, how can you configure it on vSphere? Do I have to present the databases of the two SANs on the iSCSI adapter in the ESXi ?
