Restart VM with a remote snap (secondary SAN)

Hello guys, 

I need of your help...

I have two ESXi cluster (one in each datacenter). with 3 ESXi host / cluster. 

The first cluster woking with our first MSA 1050 SAN (42To). For more redondancy, i would like to configure the "remote snap replication" betwen the first MSA1050 and the seconde MSA1050. But, this part it's not a problem.

The question is the following :

If the primary SAN (in DC1) is out/off, how i can restarting the all VM of DC1 to DC2 ? I must use the software with recovery fonctionnality (like Veeam or VMware SRM) ? 

i understand than the second MSA 1050 have a snapshot of our first SAN, but, i don't know how restarting the VM on the cluster in DC2 with the secondary SAN.

Yes you are correct. This can be achieved with VMWare Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) for MSA Storage. Please refer below document and refer page no 36 onwards,

This functionnality is only avaible on VMware SRM ? Or it's also possible use Veeam Backup & Replication ? 

If it's also possible with Veeam B&R, how to configure the restarting from the secondary SAN ? With a failover plan ?

Moreover, can i restarting my VM form the secondary SAN but without change cluster ?

Hi,

some of my Customers replicate the VMs to the Second DC as Standby VM using Veeam.

In this case, you do not need to replicate on the MSA Side, because Veeam does the Data replication.

Typical this feature is free for Veeam B&R and you can Test it simply with a Test VM.

We also offer the Customer the option to replicate their VM Backups to our Veeam Cloud Backup Storage.

If the VM failed (need to be restored), we are able to Start it in our DC and Tunnel traffic back to the Customer.

This is also a Feature of Veeam B&R.

Yes, i think that i will only use Veeam B&R.

Each SAN will have 4 volums (2 for these VM and 2 for the failover to another SAN)

All VMs that are on the SAN in the DC1 will be replicated on the DC2 SAN.

according to you, This solution it's good ?

Yes, I think that's the best practice.

And better as MSA replication (Sorry HPE).
