SNMP - HPE MSA 2050 SAS - Check storage

Hi,

I use SNMP on HPE MSA 2050 to know if some disks are falling and it's work perfectly with the OID cpqHoMibStatusArray.

But, i had search for an Oid which send me an alert when free space will be too small like more than 95% occuped space and I don't find an Oid to do this on the SMU Reference Guide of HPE.

Can you help me please ?

In the meantime, have a nice day.
Morgan.

Re: SNMP - HPE MSA 2050 SAS - Check storage

@MorganVidaillac

Good day!

In the case of the HPE MSA 2050 SAS storage system, SNMP OIDs for monitoring free space or capacity utilization might not be as straightforward as some other SNMP-enabled devices. Typically, storage systems like the MSA 2050 SAS provide this information through a set of OIDs related to storage controllers and disk arrays.

To monitor the free space or capacity utilization on your HPE MSA 2050 SAS storage system, you might need to use a combination of OIDs and calculations. Here's a general approach:

>> First, you need to identify the OIDs that provide information about the disks in your storage system, such as disk status, size, and usage.

>> You can calculate the capacity utilization by comparing the used space to the total space for each disk. The formula is:

Capacity Utilization (%) = (Used Space / Total Space) * 100

>> Use an SNMP monitoring tool or script to regularly poll the OIDs for disk information and calculate the capacity utilization for each disk. You may need to create custom scripts or use SNMP monitoring software that allows you to perform calculations on the collected data.

>> Based on the calculated capacity utilization, you can set up threshold-based alerts. For example, if the capacity utilization exceeds 95%, trigger an alert.

Unfortunately, there might not be a single OID that directly provides the capacity utilization percentage for the entire storage system. Instead, you'll likely need to gather information on each disk and calculate the overall capacity utilization.

For specific OIDs related to disk information on your HPE MSA 2050 SAS, you should consult the MSA 2050 SNMP MIB or contact HPE support for assistance. SNMP MIBs often contain detailed information about available OIDs and their meanings.

Keep in mind that SNMP monitoring and alerting can vary between different storage systems and firmware versions, so it's essential to consult the documentation specific to your hardware and software versions.

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.
