Re: SSD sas firmware
1st of all please remove all information where serial number visible or else you can mask serial numbers and re-post.
Regarding your query, 0001 is the only firmware as of now for drive model XS1920SE70084. You can check any firmware from below links.
https://h41111.www4.hpe.com/storage/msafirmware.html
Hope this helps!

Re: SSD sas firmware
Hardware manufacturer may be seagate but it's the HPE Software or firmware which make it more efficient, secure and supportive. So for you it's HPE drives only.
You can't use any random drives in HPE Storage because firmware matters a lot specially for data security.
Hope this helps!

Re: SSD sas firmware
@Schwarzemezza
Typically the initial firmware release is not available for download. Drive firmware is updated periodically, you would think that keeping the released firmware and the components to field update to the latest would be pretty easy. It's not.
The specific drive you are requesting does have a 'recommended' firmware release pending and drives shipping today MAY already be shipping with the new firmware.
Keep an eye on this update component:

Use the 'Revision History' tab to find the latest revision.

Re: SSD sas firmware
You can also check released and supported versions of array, controller, enclosure, and drive information by checking this link: www.hpe.com/storage/msafirmware
Also, to check the overall health of your system and any available firmware versions you can use our new MSA Health Check Tool at the following link: www.hpe.com/storage/MSAHealthCheck
Download your MSA Log File from your MSA array
Upload the MSA Log File into the MSA Health Check website
Review the results by clicking through the tabs and saving the PDF report
Links to array, enclosure, and drive firmware are provided for easy access

Re: SSD sas firmware
Yes in the bundle download under 'release notes' is the list of 85 families of drives. Your drive, XS1920SE70084, is family 83. The version is updated to: 0002

Re: SSD sas firmware
in MSA 2060 SAS Storage Management Utility has this firmware update place where you can select firmware file but i cant find a file that you can use in there. Is that update in maintenance just for show or you can actually use it to update firmware to your disk's?

Re: SSD sas firmware
You need to run the downloaded *.exe file on your PC, did you do that?
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: SSD sas firmware
I can download them but I am interested about that update system that is integrated in that MSA maintenance. It should be just single file what you can put in there and it will update disk firmware with out runing exe/rpm in windows/linux.
well at least is looks like it should work like that.

Re: SSD sas firmware
The file format for updating from SMU is obsolete, running the *.exe is now the recommended procedure.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: SSD sas firmware
Hi @ToniR
For what its worth i asked myself the same question a few months ago while setting up our new MSA2060. Since the option is there in SMU to upload a file to update the disks surely there should be a way to obtain this file from somewhere and perform disk firmware updates within SMU.
So its just a big mystery or the a bit confusing why the option to update disk firmware using a firmware update file you upload in SMU is there but then make this way of updating disk firmware or the "file format" of the firmware update file as @torsten puts it, "obsolete"
Nonetheless, @ToniR try running the smart component file you downloaded from the HPE support that is the "cpxxxxxx.exe" and when is it displays the "HPE Package Setup" dialog box, choose to Extract... the files and then check extracted files to see if you can't use a file from there to upload in SMU to update disk firmware.
Its been a while since i setup our MSA2060, will jog my memory and share feedback if recall more info in this regard.

See this:

The SMU option was used before, but now it is obsolete.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
