HP LH3000

I have never worked with HP servers or software before and in a months time I am required to set one up. I have done some reading and I will use HP navigator to configure and set-up RAIDs etc but what do I need to install for if a disk goes down and has to be replaced what tool to I need to have installed to be able to see the failed disk and re-build the RAID set once the disk is replaced. HP can have HOT disks, can I configure a HOT disk automatically or do I have to install some software to be able to use HOT disks? Obviously all companies differ on server set-up but is there a common or best practice for server setup and installation? Can anyone give any advice or recommend any good documentation to read.

Thanks

Re: HP LH3000

hi
--to manage the raid online on top of your os, you can use netraid assistant under nt and w2k or megamgr under unix or novell
--to handle hot spare disk, you only need to decalre a disk as global hot spare (spare far all logical drive) or dedicated hot spare.

--the netradi assistant can be found on cd navigator under periph>>netraid>>....

Re: HP LH3000

Thank-you Meloni for you reply, I will have a look on the Navigator CD.

If a disk does stop working and needs to be replaced will the system rebuild the array automatically on the Hot disk or on the replacement or do you have to go into NetRAID assistant and tell it to re-build?

Re: HP LH3000

hi
if the disk is declared hot spare the rebuild on this disk is automatic, as soon as the disk fail, the raid is rebuilded on the spare.
netraid assistant is only needed to verify the situation, or to force some rebuild if you don't have spare disk, in this case, you have to remove the failed hdd and put the new one, if autorebuild is enable, it will start to rebuild in a few minuts, otherwhere, you can start rebuild from netraid assistant.

Re: HP LH3000

Where is the autorebuild feature to activate if needed?

Re: HP LH3000

you can enable or disble the autorebuild function in Netraid express tools,: press Ctrl-M at boot time ;
select Object >> Adapter >> Auto Rebuild
to change or check.
