Solution--to manage the raid online on top of your os, you can use netraid assistant under nt and w2k or megamgr under unix or novell
--to handle hot spare disk, you only need to decalre a disk as global hot spare (spare far all logical drive) or dedicated hot spare.
--the netradi assistant can be found on cd navigator under periph>>netraid>>....

Re: HP LH3000
If a disk does stop working and needs to be replaced will the system rebuild the array automatically on the Hot disk or on the replacement or do you have to go into NetRAID assistant and tell it to re-build?

Re: HP LH3000
if the disk is declared hot spare the rebuild on this disk is automatic, as soon as the disk fail, the raid is rebuilded on the spare.
netraid assistant is only needed to verify the situation, or to force some rebuild if you don't have spare disk, in this case, you have to remove the failed hdd and put the new one, if autorebuild is enable, it will start to rebuild in a few minuts, otherwhere, you can start rebuild from netraid assistant.
