HP Netserver LT 6000r freezes after reinstallation of W2k Adv.S.
After I reinstalled a HP Netserver LT 6000r with W2K AS (via HP Netserver Navigator M.04.05) the server freezes after a while (10-60sec.) when I'm logged in.
I lost network connection and keyboard/mouse functionality.
So I have to reboot the server via the "reset" button. After I log in again he freezes again after a while. This mean that I can't check anything on a normal way...
I heard from a collegue this is a known error wich is to solve via an REG Key setting...
But he did not know what to do exactly
PLease can someone help me out?

Re: HP Netserver LT 6000r freezes after reinstallation of W2k Adv.S.
On servers I have seen this on, I can normally access the box as long as the "local" workstation service is not accessed.
You should be able to use mmc /author to connect and manage the box from another w2k workstation.

Re: HP Netserver LT 6000r freezes after reinstallation of W2k Adv.S.
I can't even install the needed programs on this server(eg NSM6, McAffee,etc).
What I need is a solution for the freezing server when I'm logged in..

Re: HP Netserver LT 6000r freezes after reinstallation of W2k Adv.S.
So now we know the issue is with the Local Machine portion of the install.
Use MMC to shutdown services and try to login.
I use the "half" method. Shutdown half of the services first and try. If the box stays up, you know it was in the first batch of services. If not, try the other half.
If no service is causing the issue, it has to be a device driver.
Use MMC again to check devices...
Also, now that I think of it, what does the event viewer say before or after the freeze-up occurs?

That registry patch should be on the OS driver disks from HP which you can create from Navigator CD or download from HP web site.

Re: HP Netserver LT 6000r freezes after reinstallation of W2k Adv.S.
As martin mentioned the LT600r have the same issue like LH6000r netservers. To avoid this HP have a special instruction in installing windows 2000 in LH6000 and LT6000 netserver. Probabily you did not follow that special instruction during windows 2000 installation.
To fix this issue, since you already installed the Operating system follow the following steps
Install Windows 2000 using the procedure given below.
To start with, Download the windows 2000 driver for LT600r from this link
If your server is a U2
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US〈=English&pnameOID=19837&prodSeriesId=50459&prodTypeId=15351&basePartNum=ns1072&locBasepartNum=ns1072en&os=Microsoft+Windows+2000+Server&tech=Driver
If your server is a U3
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US〈=English&pnameOID=19837&prodSeriesId=50459&prodTypeId=15351&basePartNum=ns1442&locBasepartNum=ns1442en&os=Microsoft+Windows+2000+Server&tech=Driver
Then creat a driver floppy by unzipping the downloaded file in to a floppy diskett. Once you have the driver diskett ready follow the following instruction
1.Pressing CTL-ALT-DEL, use the right arrow key to select "shutdown". DO NOT USE THE MOUSE DURING THE SHUTDOWN PROCESS AS IT COULD CAUSE YOUR SYSTEM TO HANG.
2. When the system reboots press F8 at the start of the Windows 2000 boot sequence.
3. Select "Enable VGA mode" from the choices listed on the display.
4. When prompted to login, press CTL-ALT-DEL and login as administrator. (You can use the mouse while you are running in VGA mode.)
5. Insert the Windows 2000 drivers diskette that you created earlier (Disk #1).
6. Open the My Computer folder.
7. Open Drive A: folder.
8. Open the w2kvp folder.
9. Double click w2kvp.reg. (You may not see the file extension depending upon how you have your system configured.)
The content of the w2kvp.reg file is as follows:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\GraphicsDrivers\DisableUSWC]
10. Click Yes at the popup dialog box to confirm the registry changes.
11. Click OK to finish the registry update.
12. Remove the diskette and perform a Shutdown, Restart.
13. Let the system boot as usual and login.
Test the system by changing the video resolution to 800x600 and running "Disk Administrator" to prepare the system.
Good Luck
