hphswsvc hogging CPU
I've alternatively heard it's best not to run the HP Manager software it's associated with, and alternatively that software versions should be checked for later versions and compatibility.
Is there an accepted 'best investigation / resolution path'?
Thanks.

Re: hphswsvc hogging CPU
This service monitors the Internal hot swap cages and any external hot swap cages that have a SAF-TE processor (RS8/12).
Just off of the cuff, I would wonder if maybe you have a hard drive failure you haven't noticed? Maybe one of your drives is hanging the BUS, which would definitly account for the CPU usage.
If you determine you do have a failed drive, usually pulling that bad drive will release the hang and your system resources should free up again.

Re: hphswsvc hogging CPU
Thanks for this. Have double checked and the HDDs are OK. Tried bumping the server, but the process is still up at over 90% CPU time.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again!

Re: hphswsvc hogging CPU
try stopping the SNMP service if it's allowed on your prodcution system.
What version of TT agents are you running ?

Re: hphswsvc hogging CPU
Stopping SNMP services on this box isn't an option.
Frustratingly, there's no version information available on hphswsvc.exe, however it's dated July 2002 so I guess it's updatable.
I've now downloaded the 5.55 & 5.55 patch1 agent upgrades from HP, so I'll give those a try and see if they clear things.
Will update this thread when I've had a chance to do that.
Thanks for you help,
Ewen

Re: hphswsvc hogging CPU
If you are running an an LC2000, LH3000, LH6000 or Lt6000. All of those servers had a backplane fw upgrade available for them. Have you looked to see if you are at the latest backplane PCA fw?
FW on the backplane PCA on the LH 3000 for example should be at a.10.23

I would make sure to verify this.

Re: hphswsvc hogging CPU
It's a tc3100. I guess I should have said that in the first place!
I'm hopeful the upgrades I downloaded should do the trick. Just a question of scheduling downtime to look at installing them.
Thanks again,
Ewen
