Importing a disk
Hi all
I've got a disk from one of our customers that I want to put into our RS12 / Netraid4M and still retain the information thats on it.
Is this possible?
The FAST configuration needs to initialize the disk and that will obviously destroy the data on it.
Thanks

Re: Importing a disk
You can install it. Do not Initialized (Format) the logical drive after you configure it on the controller. Escape out and ship that, the drive has already been Initialized.

Re: Importing a disk
Hi Nigel,
The first thing you need to do is find out which controller the drive was connected to. In order for you to use it on your 4M, it must have been configured on another 4M. There is no migration path to the 4M from any other controller.
If it was on a 4M controller, access the Container Configuration Utility (CCU) from POST by pressingA when prompted. Choose Manage Containers from the list and it should detect that there has been a change and ask if you want to accept or discard these changes. Accept, and the data should be accessible.
If it was not on a 4M, it makes it somewhat easier except for the fact that you cannot install the drive in your RS/12. If it was not in a RAID configuration (connected to a standard SCSI controller), remove the drive from the drive tray and install it in one of the common-tray (non-hotswap) bays in your server. When you boot up, the drive should be accessible.
If the drive was connected to an integrated RAID controller, you can connect the drive to your embedded RAID controller, create a logical drive without initializing, and access the drive that way. You will need to make sure of your controller order in the BIOS to make sure it doesn't try to boot to that drive.
Gather some of this info and let us know so we can give more specific instructions.
Good luck,
