Instant Toptools more detailed without server agents?
After my post regarding the drivecage firmware below, I rebooted the machine yesterday night and ran the firmware update. Turned out that both cages already had the latest.
After the restart I got those infamous ScsiSMART errors, so I went and deinstalled the server agents. I looked into Instant Toptools and was very suprised: suddendly I got voltage, temperature, fan rpm and cage firmware displayed: all this was definitely NOT displayed before with the server agents running.
So I am thinking about leaving them deinstalled because I do not really need SNMP monitoring. What else do I loose?

Re: Instant Toptools more detailed without server agents?
The Netserver agents work actively in the background (pros and cons for this) to notify you of errors. Instant TopTools takes a snapshot of the hardware when loaded. This means if ITT is already running & an error event occurs, ITT will not record it until it is restarted.

Re: Instant Toptools more detailed without server agents?
Hi Terri,
Is it a requirement of HP that the TT agents to be installed on their servers for support purposes?
Without the TT agents, what is lost (apart from the obvious monitoring) and what is gained in terms of performance, etc.
TIA
John Cowell

Re: Instant Toptools more detailed without server agents?
It is NOT required to have the Netserver agents installed. There is overhead associated with any management software, and the Netserver agents are no exception. But I do not have any specific resource increase/decrease numbers for you.
Hope this helps.
