Issue with CPU Upgrade to LH 4
I have three processors all the same step level and speed, 500MHZ Pentium III Xeons, I have VRMs in 1,2,3,1/2,3/4 and I am running into numerous voltage errors.
They voltage won't stay consistent, I will get errors saying it is too low, and then too high.
I get errors 212,218,210,211... I have gone as far as changing all the VRMs with brand new HP hardware, but still nothing.
the Reading on the CPUs range from 1.90 to 1.94 and on the Cache VRMs 2.60-2.64, what is happening.
The bios is current, and everything else is current firmware as well.

Re: Issue with CPU Upgrade to LH 4
Matt,
In my experience with LC2000s, I've learned that SMP system CPUs must be identical, not simply have the same stepping and clocking values. This means they must come from the same die, and are known by what Intel calls the "S-Spec" in their documentation (see attached).
There are a few possible S-specs for 500MHz PIII Xeons, depending on the stepping and L2 Cache size.
Please see attached document, or visit the intel website.
If you are using the proper XEONS and have replaced the VRMs, then I would next suspect the mainboard. If your systm is under warranty, perhaps HP can help?
Computer problems suck. Why can't all the hardware and software just get along?
Good luck.

If if ain't broke, don't fix it.

Re: Issue with CPU Upgrade to LH 4
Well, I know for a fact the are all exact, they are even mfg. in the same country (Ireland of all places), and appear to be from the same lot, because they were sold from the same HP factory direct box.
So maybe a new board.
