LC 3 w/ PIII 600, VRM for 1.65 V?

Hi,

According to HP support, I could use a Pentium III 600 MHz with my trusted NetServer LC 3. But how about using an 1.65 V version instead of a 2.0 V version? Is there a suitable VRM available to replace the VRM 0950-2848 (or 0950-2847)? Are there any other reasons why this might not work? Thanks in advance!

Re: LC 3 w/ PIII 600, VRM for 1.65 V?

Is that a Pentium III Katmai core (2.0V) or Coppermine core (1.65V) processor?

Re: LC 3 w/ PIII 600, VRM for 1.65 V?

Hi Malte,

The fastest processor that the LC3 was designed to support was the PIII-550MHz Katmai. The server will support PII Deschutes or PIII Katmai processors. All take the 2.0V VRM. (0950-2848)

You can find one of these processors at Ambry Computers, here is a link to the CPU:

and the VRM here:

Hope this helps,

Re: LC 3 w/ PIII 600, VRM for 1.65 V?

HP Support even specified DIP switch settings for a 600 MHz Pentium III. But Katmai core PIII 600 (2.0V) seem to be much harder to find then Coppermine core (1.65V) versions. That's why I haven't tested a 600 MHz CPU. And that's why I wanted to find out whether a 1.65V Pentium might work as well. So is anyone out there who has successfully used a 600 MHz Pentium in an LC3?
