LC2000 Rebuild Failure at 9%
Hi there,
I have a problem with an HP Netserver LC2000. The server has a Netraid1si controller installed and 3, 9.1 GB HOTSWAP hard disks in Raid 5 configuration. The server running Windows NT4 reported that one of the hard disks faulty and marked it with the red led.
I removed the faulty hard disk and installed another one. Rebuild started automatically (option enabled from the raid controller) thus it stopped at 9% marking the hard disk faulty again and displaying an error on the screen â Error on Rebuilding Deviceâ . I tried with another hard disk part and gave the exact rebuild percentage and error.
I have checked for any controller update and server update. Both were updated to the latest firmware and bios available from the HP site. Thus even after the updates the rebuild stopped again at 9% and marked the hard disk faulty.
The server is still with two disks, any suggestions plz?
Thanks
Pi

Re: LC2000 Rebuild Failure at 9%
Pierre,
The issue is that one of your two online hard drives has some media errors. You have two choices, one is to replace the hard drive with media errors, at which point you have two failed hdds and will need to reinstall and restore from backup.
Your second option which was never supported by HP, but will resolve your failed rebuild issue is to cable your cage to the embedded SCSI controller and run Verify on the hard drive with media errors. Allow the SCSI controller to remap all bad blocks. Then cable back up to the netraid and try the rebuild again. It will complete successfully.
To check which hdd has media errors, go to ctrl-M, then objects, physical drives and check drive properties on each hdd. One or both of your online drives will show a media or physical error.
hth,
Greg

Re: LC2000 Rebuild Failure at 9%
Hi Greg,
in fact i went looking around in the forum logs and found a simillar post on a differnet server.
i am going to try the SCSI option after installing a backup server and restore the client data in case that this does not work.
i will let u know if it worked or not.
thanks again,
Pierre

Re: LC2000 Rebuild Failure at 9%
I've done it many times and seen it many times, so I'm confident that this is your issue. As always, a good backup before doing something like this is always a wise thing!
Ciao,
Greg
