LC3 RAID conversion

I have a NetServer LC3 with two 9.1GB drive in a RAID 1 configuration. I wish to add a third 9.1GB drive and configure the all three 9.1GB drives in a RAID 5. I need to have everything on the RAID 1 transfered to the RAID 5. Does anyone know how this can be done?

Re: LC3 RAID conversion

Cam,

This is very easy to do. Go into NetRaid assistant either in your NOS or booting to the Navigator CD. Inside NetRaid Assistant choose the Logical drive view. Highlight both the logical drive and the physical hard drive with ready state. Then click on Logical Drive -> Change Config --> Add capacity -> then click Yes to add the hdd to the array and choose Raid Level 5 and choose apply. After rebuild completes you'll need to go and allocate the space available in your NOS.

Ciao,

Re: LC3 RAID conversion

In the NOS I have a DOS partition which I would like to make 2GB from it's current size of 500MB. Will I be able to change this?

Re: LC3 RAID conversion

What NOS is installed? That is really the key.
As far as the operating system knows, with a NetRAID hardware array, it is simply one big physical disk.
So the question becomes, will the NOS allow you to increase the size of the system partition? Or will a software utility allow you to do this?

Re: LC3 RAID conversion

Note that you cannot expand a NT system partition !.

The expanding only works if it has been configured prior to the initial installation of the server.

Best Practice: make a backup anr restore the data on a clean box. Upgrade all firmwares, even those of the harddisks (very important!).
Never trust a thing that thinks by itself if you don't know where it has it's brain...
