Hi!
We have a HP LH 6000r server with 6 HDD's.
2 in RAID1(9Gb each),
4 in RAID5(36Gb each).
Problem 1: Two drives was pinched, 1 from RAID1 and 1 from RAID5. It meens, i have two broken arrays. But as i know, 1 missing drive must not be a problem for RAID1 and 5. Is it so ?
Problem 2: Someone hase remove all drives from server by our relocation and RAID-Drive-ID's was interchaged. I don't know in which plases in cage must i put this drives now. Is it critical or not? I read somewhere, that NetRaid controller can detect and rewrite RAID ID's. Is it so ?
Please Help !
Thank's
Sergio

Solution
Hello Sergio,
1. Both RAID 1 and 5 are redundant states; which means you can lose one hard drive from either array and still have your data available. However, you are no longer in a redundant state and if you lose another drive in either array, you will lose everything.
2. The Netraid controller has a function called drive roaming where the hard drive scratch pad talks to the Netraid controller and lets the controller know what part of which array it was originally in. The controller will compare this to its own saved configuration and as long as the drive information matches between the two, the controller will accept the new position and change its own information to match the new position.
3. So, you should be fine if this is a different server than in item 1. If it's the same server as item 1, then you have a problem because the controller knows there are two failed (missing) hard drives but if you invoke drive roaming by moving the drives, the controller does not know which two should now be failed. If you know which slots had missing hard drives, just leave those slots empty and you should be fine. Otherwise, you will have problems and should probably call in and let an agent try different combinations to see if the right one can be found.
Tony

Re: LH 6000r - with interchanged HDD's problem ...
Thanx for the first help ...
By boot i recive warning:
2 Logical drives found
2 Logical drives fault
......
OK, i found, i think a positions for three 36Gb Drives (RAID5), when i going to NetRaid Utility (Strg+M) > Config > View/Add/Delete Config, i see that this three are READY.
In config i see something that: A0-1 FAULT,
A0-2 FAULT and so on. When i press on READY entries, it changed to A2-0 ONLINE and so on. What's this ?
Another 9Gb Drive, whatever on which position in cage i put it, by NetRaid initialisation, it's blink red. Is this Drive damaged ?
Another quastation, can i trying to use this drives(HP) whith another computer ? or it's a special drives for this server ?
Thank all
Sergio
