Lh Pro and Linux, How-To?
Hi all,
I am in the process of setting up an retired Netserver Lh Pro as a Linux server and need some input fro this group:
The server is a dual Pentium Pro, 512MB, A Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM video card, two Intel NIC's, 6 Seagate 18gig SCSI hard drives, (SCA 80) and an HP Netraid-1 raid card. The system and NetRiad BIOS have been upgraed to the latest available.
I have setup a RAID array following the HP docs and have single array using all 6 disks utilizing RAID 5. Total logical drives = 5. First is 7gig and the remaining consist of the rest of the disk space divided by 4.
I have the following questions:
1. Is it possible to install Linux on the above configuration. If so what if any special considerations need to be taken?
2. Does anyone know of an existing How-To etc that is available?
3. What version of Linux is recommended? I have tried Red hat 9 and experienced the following issues. Upon startup I received an Xserver fatal error 104. Based on my research this seems to be video card related. I then restarted the install and selected text only installation and took all the defaults, (this is an initial test install), and everything seemed to be fine until it started to format the partitions, it got to 11% and never went any further. One of my co-workers has installed Mandrake 8.1 successfully on a Netserver Lx Pro with a NetRaid-1 card, but I would prefer Red Hat if this is doable.
4. The video card I am using is listed as supported, but experienced the above issues. Does anyone know of a specific video card that has worked successfully with the Lh Pro and Linux, (Red Hat or other)?
5. Anything else I need to be aware of in attempting to perform this installation?
I appreciate any advice or resources you can provide. I have read enough to gather that Linux has been successfully installed on this system with a NetRaid-1 card, but I can't find any specifics.
Regards,
Gordon Owens

Re: Lh Pro and Linux, How-To?
I've got a LD Pro here and I'm trying to install SuSE Linux on it.
LD Pro and LH Pro are very similar.
I've got two 4GB drives connected to the onboard SCSI controller and at the moment I'm using onboard video.
SuSE 8.1 installs but it doesn't detect the graphics card so at the moment I've only got text mode.
This weekend I'll probably try SuSE 8.2 and maybe a different video card.
