LH4 Hard Disk Question

Hi Everyone

We currently have an HP Netserver LH4 with a RAID50 configuration i.e. 2 arrays each containing 3 X 18.2 Half Height SCSI drives. There are 2 free low profile slots on each side. We wish to replace all drives and insert low profile drives i.e. 2 arrays each containing 3 X 36 GB low profile drives.
My question is this. Can the HP LH4 take these low profile drives? Our drives are currently half height. I am assuming also that I would have to build the server from scratch i.e install NT Server and restore data.

TIA
Pierre

Re: LH4 Hard Disk Question

The LH4 can use low profile drives. Backup and restore would be the best option. D9419A and D9422A are part numbers for 36GB ultra 3 HDD.

Re: LH4 Hard Disk Question

Be sure to use the included drive spacer when replacing half height drives with low profile drives to ensure proper ventilation.

Re: LH4 Hard Disk Question

Yes, this is possible and since you are running the old D8210A's then it is a good idea just from the age.
You can fill you cages with 6-low profile drives each. Unfortunately when you increase the size of the physical drive, the NetRAID will truncate the drive if you just tried to replace one of the drives in the RAID. THe only other option is to Expand the array with 2 other 18 GB Low Profile drives.
If you can, backup and restore onto a new array of 3 36GB or 72 GB each side. e4servicesinc.com
