Any help with this problem will be appreciated.
As I posted earlier, I have an LHii server with a broken [built-in] SCSI adapter... so I installed a new PCI dual-channel SCSI adapter (Adaptec AHA-3944AUWD) at the suggestion of my local HP tech.
I moved the ribbon connectors from the proper ports on the built-in SCSI card to a new card. The computer sees the new SCSI adapter, but not the drives. Any suggestions on getting this to work?
Second issue... I have a DAT24 tape drive and a CD-rom drive that also run off SCSI channel A (and worked fine with the built-in adapter). Is that possibly causing problems?
Thanks!! -Cloy

Solution
Cloy,
Adaptec 3944 ("44") is HVD (High-Voltage-Differential) SCSI adapter. You MUST NOT connect LVD and SE devices to it - they are not electrically compatible.
If you're attaching SE (single-ended) devices please use Adaptec 2940UW controllers ("40"), and if you're attaching LVD devices use Adaptec 29160lp adapter

Re: LHii SCSI Adapter - Help!
Thanks, Eugeny!
Would a 3940 card be appropriate? I need a dual channel and I think the 2940 cards are only single channel.
With regard to the 3944 card -- I assumed that only the external ports were high voltage. Must have been incorrect on that point.

Re: LHii SCSI Adapter - Help!
Cloy,
I've heard that
"2/3...9.....40/44/160/320"
2=single channel
3=dual channel
9=PCI bus
40/44/160/320=speed (40=SE, 44=FWD, all others are LVD)
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppdetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US&prodkey=AHA-3940 .
I think 3940 should be ok. But only if you already have it, it's useless to buy. Better purchase 39160 and you will be able to connect high speed tape drives like LTO
