memory parity error

I have a Net Server LCII which gives me the error

BLUE SCREEN Error, SUMITN01, 05/10/2001

"Hardware Malfunction

NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error"

On reboot, 256 MB RAM checked OK

It reboots fine- This happens every once in a While. What can I do to stop this happening- Is it a good idea to close the server down and reseat the memory or is the memory faulty?

Re: memory parity error

hi
first identify which simm is defective: log in SEL (event log hardware) booting with you CD-Navigator >>netserver utilities>>event viewer, there you can found the log of the hardware error and in this case, if the error is related to the simm, you will found the location of the error. usualy as the memory are ECC (error corection) you had to found in the log a lot of "single bit errors", (which are corected, only multiple bit error can crash your system). remember that only 512 event can be recorded, if the log is full, you need to clear it.
if you found that the message is present, then it is a good thing to clear the simm contacts, (be aware about ESD problems). If this doesn't solve, wou need to replace the simm.
