Missing microcode Update on Post
I have upgraded the Bios from 4.06.12 to 4.06.35 on a Netserver LPr with 2*pII 400Mhz.
And now, I have a Post error :
0B01-0A Missing microcode update data block for microprocessor.
After swapping the processors, the error code became 0B00-0A.
I have replaced the CPU #0 by a spare, but it didn't fix the problem.
Any idea ?

Re: Missing microcode Update on Post
Processors labeled "SL2U6" work fine, but all the "SL2S7" don't.
Are there some incompatibility with these processor on some early motherboard (this one supports up to 550Mhz) ?
Is there a turnaround to make them running because I don't have a second "SL2U6" available ?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Missing microcode Update on Post
The Netserver LPr P400 does support up to a 550 MHz CPU (maximum of 2). Stepping value should not be an issue here. More information on this is available in the following HP technical document:
http://isupport2.hp.com/Solution.asp?id=a331f6b3-39b3-11d5-beaf-0090278a7756
Have you tried clearing CMOS? This may clear the current POST error.
To clear the CMOS configuration.
a. Turn the server off and unplug it. Take the case off.
b. Locate the set of system switches on the motherboard.
c. Move Switch #5 CLEAR CONFIG to the opposite position.
d. Power up the server. You will see a configuration error. The server will stop at this error.
e. Turn the server off, unplug it. Move Switch #5 back to the original position.
f. Power up the server. The BIOS program must be run to re-configure the server.

Re: Missing microcode Update on Post
I have done the clear CMOS thing, but nothing better...
I have no idea about the HP part number, there is this numbers on the top side of the Pentium :
80523PY400512 SL2S7
I have tried with 3 different Pentium with this same numbers, and I always get the missing microcode error.
The model with numbers 80523PY400512 SL2U6 works fine.
If I use two SL2S7 processor models, I have two error lines (0B00-0A and 0B01-0A).

Re: Missing microcode Update on Post
The problem with previous version was post errors 80-051 and 90 for MMC and DIMM management failures, with press "F1" key to continue... and very slow post process.
The server works with the new Bios but I still have the "F1" key to press to continue at reboot, and it says it might be instable. For now, it seems ok

Re: Missing microcode Update on Post
If the system is otherwise working I would not update or change anything.
For a MMC post error (0080 and/or 0090 error codes) it is recommended to update the System BIOS, which appears to have fixed your problem. These POST errors are also commonly associated with very slow booting.
The other recommendation with the MMC 0080 0090 POST errors is to flash just the MMC (the MMC update is included in the System BIOS update).

Re: Missing microcode Update on Post
I have downgraded the Bios to 4.06.31 from L18.02 Navigator CD.
Then, I have applied the fix for errors 80/90.
No more "F1" messages :-)
Well, no more touch to this server about FW or Bios...
Thanks all,
Michel

Re: Missing microcode Update on Post
Im about to upgrade from single 550 to dual 800MHz on each of 9 LPrs and I *EXPECT* to get the F1 issue as these are Intel CPU's. Not HP. Where can I get the BIOS downrev from as Im positive we are at the lates revs?
What is it about an HP branded Intel CPU that makes it stand out from a normal Intel chip to the motherboard. Looks like someone went out of their way to make life difficult for sysadmins.
