Netserver E40 HDD Upgrade

Can anybody recommend a good, larger capacity SCSI HDD that doesn't cost a fortune that I can use to replace the existing drive in an old E40?

The server currently has the one 4.2GB (D4963A) SCSI HDD, but it is almost full.

I don't need a lot of capacity... Somewhere around +/- 20GB would be good for the life of this box.

I just want to make sure I get a drive that will work with the existing AHA-2910Bi Fast/Narrow SCSI-2 controller.

Many thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Netserver E40 HDD Upgrade

Your Netserver has shelves for 2 hard drives and an onboard AHA-2910 PCI-to-Fast SCSI card , 50-pin high-density SCSI-2. All though we have replacement drives for this, you can replace the drive with any modern 68pin SCSI drive. Current manufacture is in 18GB capacities and up, 10,000 RPM and up and we do not suggest buying "old stock", the shelf time is too long. Then you can either purchase a 50 to 68 pin cable or a cable adapter to connect the new drive.
Last make sure you have the lastest BIOS 4.05.09PH 27-Jan-00 but unfortunately Adaptec has no Firmware updates for the controller.

Re: Netserver E40 HDD Upgrade

Ok, good deal :)

Sounds like I can go ahead and get the 18GB drive I was looking at + an adpater... I'm in agreement on not buying the old pulls for sure.

I'll check on that BIOS version too and if it's not that rev, I'll look for the update.

Thanks!

D'oh! Forgot to ask... Does it matter if it is a LVD drive?

Oh, yes. Make sure you get something that is selectable.

I ran across a good deal on an ST39204LW. Any reason why that drive would NOT work? TIA! :)
