Netserver LH Boot Problems

I have a netserver LH that on boot comes up with "EISA NVRAM Configuration is Invalid Run Configuration Utility", then does the memory count and then gives the message "System CMOS Configuration Error - Run Configuration Utility" then it goes to a blank screen with a flashing cursor.

I have replaced the BIOS with a new chip with most recent version (it will not allow me to get to the BIOS with F2 or CNTRL-C) and it will not do a floppy seek or anything else after it gets to this screem. I have tried clearing the BIOS but it will not give the confirmation that it has been cleared. Any help would be appreicated

Re: Netserver LH Boot Problems

Have you cleared CMOS via the system switches? Have you attempted to boot to the ECU utility found on this page:

Re: Netserver LH Boot Problems

Chris,

You said you tried to clear CMOS but it never gave you the Configuration has been cleared message and that you have replaced your Bios eprom with a new chip.. What is the part number on the chip? Is it an HP Chip? Why did you replace the old chip? Could you boot into the ECU on the old CMOS? There is no F2 or Ctrl-C on this server--> it is an ECU (Eisa Configuration Utility) that Theo references in his post. If you replaced your old eprom because you couldn't get into F2 then put your old eprom back in and boot into the ECU diskette.

Ciao,

Re: Netserver LH Boot Problems

I assumed that the Checksum error was referring to a bad BIOS chip so I replaced it but the original from HP does the same. There is no floppy seek to allow for me to run the ECU. I have not created the boot disk to try, but if there is no floppy seek would it even work? It just goes to a flashing cursor, and once again the clear DIP Switch does not do anything. Any other advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Netserver LH Boot Problems

Chris,

The steps to try to resolve this without replacing parts is to Clear CMOS, then boot to the ECU Diskette. If you can't boot to these diskettes and you have the same error with two different eproms then you'll need to replace the system board.
Also how are the other switches set on the LH?

The ECU file needs to be saved to your hdd and then run the .exe to extract to floppy. This will be a bootable diskette. Even if you don't see a floppy seek you have nothing to lose trying the ECU diskette.
If you have the LH then use this link:
If you have the LH PLUS then use this link: http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix50447.html http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix50453.html

Good luck,
Greg

Re: Netserver LH Boot Problems

The Switches are set to all on except for the SMI Bus and the Config Valid (when attempting to clear the CMOS)Where else are these configuration setting stored and isn't there a way to clear them completely and start over? I will try the ECU later tonight and see if the problem is fixed but I doubt it. This seems like the board is damaged.

Thank you for all your help.
